ESPN ranks Ohio State’s Wyatt Davis as second-best returning offensive lineman

If you’ve followed Ohio State football over the last couple of years, you know how valuable right guard Wyatt Davis is to the team. Out of Bellflower, California’s national powerhouse St. John Bosco High School, he came in ready to play. He’s arguably the most valuable player on the OSU offensive line.

Taking it further, if you talk to NFL types, he’s one of the offensive lineman that have a great shot at going in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft. The fact that he decided to come back for one more season was a huge win for head coach Ryan Day and staff.

Count ESPN in the crowd that sees just how talented the six-foot, four-inch, 313 lb. mountain moving of a man is. The worldwide leader in sports programming has come out with a top ten list (subscription required) of best returning offensive lineman, and Davis checks in at No. 2, just behind Oregon’s Penei Sewell.

Here’s what Anthony Treash says about Davis.

After performing at a relatively average level in the first few starts of his college career, Davis came back with a vengeance in 2019.

Davis was one of three Power 5 guards to log at least 400 pass-block reps and not allow a single sack or hit. Davis also earned an 82.6 overall grade that ranked second among all qualifying guards, and he generated a WAA figure that ranks among the five best right guards of the PFF College era.

Sewell is far and away the best tackle in college football, but Ohio State’s Davis takes the cake for interior offensive linemen.

With Davis anchoring a talented and veteran offensive line, the offense should be ready to hum once again.
