ESPN pegs Dolphins as favorites to pick #1 overall in 2020

The fine folks over at ESPN seem to have bought into the tank. The worldwide leader collected a panel of their best football analysts to answer the “biggest questions” leading into the 2019 NFL year opening with free agency early next month.

When the discussion turned to which team will have the #1 overall pick for next year, the Dolphins were firmly planted in the discussion. Four analysts, Matt Bowen, KC Joyner, Mike Clay and Mike Sando each pegged Miami as the odds on favorite to pick first next season. Why?

Joyner criticized the talent on the team, stating that “(Adam) Gase was the subject of a lot of jokes…he got fired despite getting seven wins out of a Dolphins team that has three or four win talent.”

And while there is an obvious lack of talent present in Miami, that is hardly enough to land a team with the top pick 14 months out.

Sando brought a more well seasoned opinion, pointing out that the Dolphins are “willingly” entering a rebuild with no quarterback and no high draft choices.

It’s going to be a long season in 2019. And while landing the first overall pick is a great way to ensure you’re in position to get your preferred talent, Miami will have options,
