ESPN Not Renewing Bomani Jones Contract

The Walt Disney Co. (DIS) -) continues to make major moves to improve its bottomline, particularly at ESPN.

The sports network cut around 20 of their on-air talent in June, including the likes of Jeff Van Gundy, Suzy Kolber, and Jalen Rose. Longtime ESPN journalist Bomani Jones is the latest star set to leave the network as ESPN is reportedly not renewing his contract after it expires at the end of July, according to a report by Front Office Sports.

“The economic fate of people in sports media is getting dicier and dicier by the day,” Jones told Front Office Sports before speaking at the Writers Guild of America’s Sports Solidarity Day. “I think the ESPN layoffs were the beginning of it in a lot of ways. Seeing what happened [with] the New York Times shutting down their sports department and they moved those people to other desks, but at some point they’re probably going to deem those people to be surplus and they’re not going to be there anymore.”

Jones joined ESPN in 2004 as a writer then moved on to TV through shows like “Around The Horn” and “Highly Questionable.” He’s currently the host of “The Right Time with Bomani Jones,” one of the top performing shows in ESPN’s repertoire.

He had an HBO show called “Game Theory with Bomani Jones” which premiered in 2022 but was canceled earlier this month.
