ESPN identifies Georgia’s sophomore breakout player

Georgia football will be loaded yet again for the 2019 season, thanks in large part to the recruiting success of Kirby Smart and staff.

Last season, Georgia’s 2018 recruiting class took the field and did not disappoint. Highlighted by now former Bulldog Justin Fields, the class was ranked No. 1 overall in the country and received promising contributions from running back James Cook, cornerback Tyson Campbell, defensive lineman Jordan Davis and others.

In a recent ESPN article, the site explored breakout sophomores on each top-25 team, noting players they think will avoid a sophomore-slump and make a name for themselves in 2019.

For Georgia, ESPN identified defensive lineman Jordan Davis as the Dawgs breakout sophomore. Davis’ freshman year was one that should get Bulldog fans excited about the Charlotte, North Carolina native. He signed with Georgia as just a three-star from Mallard Creek High School and he appeared in 11 games, starting four, in 2018.

From ESPN:

With Jonathan Ledbetter and Jay Hayes gone, who’s next on the D-line for the Bulldogs? Look no further than Davis, who quietly had a stellar freshman campaign. Despite not arriving until the summer, he played in 11 of 14 games, starting four. And while it’s true he didn’t light up the stat sheet with 25 tackles and 1.5 sacks, as an interior lineman that’s not an accurate measure of his performance. What is? How about earning a spot on the coaches’ freshman All-SEC team? At 6-foot-6 and 330 pounds, Davis has the size and strength to anchor Kirby Smart’s defense for years to come — Scarborough
