ESPN gives the Jags a ‘B’ grade for their offseason moves

Coming into the 2019 season, it was clear the Jacksonville Jaguars needed to make multiple additions on their offense, and most feel they did just that to the best of their abilities. With limited cap space, they made a change at quarterback by acquiring Nick Foles, then added receiver Chris Conley and tight end Geoff Swaim alongside him in free-agency. In the draft, they added Foles some protection on the right side with the addition of Jawaan Taylor and a weapon at his favorite position to utilize in tight end, Josh Oliver.

However, ESPN’s Mike Sando feels the front office still could’ve done a slightly better job. In his offseason grades for the whole league, he gave the Jags a “B” grade for their offseason haul as a whole, which still is respectable for the Jags who are trying to bounce back from a five-win season.

In a nutshell, Sando liked the Jags’ first two draft selections as Josh Allen and Taylor were two of the draft’s best players. He also mentioned that he thought replacing Bortles with Foles gave the team a greater outlook, which is something they haven’t had in a while.

The biggest concern that Sando had with the Jags’ offseason was the fact that they didn’t add enough weapons around, which seems to be a common theme for analysts. However, their young receivers in DJ Chark, Keelan Cole and Dede Westbrook have shown growth during organized team activities, which is encouraging. Chris Conley and Josh Oliver have also come on strong, too.

Sure, the pads haven’t gone on yet, but all of the aforementioned names have shown they have great ability at times in the regular season. If they can manage to be consistent and alleviate the pressure off of Leonard Fournette, there is no reason they can’t find themselves ranked as a top-15 unit overall, or better.
