ESPN experts rank Mitch Trubisky as top-10 MVP candidate

We’re less than one week away from the start of the 2019 season, and NFL experts are already starting to make their predictions for Most Valuable Player.

Usually, the MVP is awarded to the quarterback on the best team. The fact that Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky landed a top-10 ranking from ESPN is indicative of that.

Trubisky has the ninth-best odds to win MVP, according to ESPN experts. He received six votes, including one first-place vote and five fifth-place votes.

The third-year quarterback also garnered a top-10 ranking for Offensive Player of the Year at No. 7. He received three total votes, including one first-place vote.

Expectations are high for Trubisky entering his second year in Matt Nagy’s offense. With a year of experience in the system, Trubisky has made the leap from 101 to 202, as he continues to master this offense. That means less thinking, more reacting, which is key in his success.

Trubisky will have plenty of offensive weapons to work with, including receivers Allen Robinson, Anthony Miller, Taylor Gabriel, Cordarrelle Patterson, Riley Ridley and Javon Wims.

Then there are running backs Tarik Cohen, Mike Davis and David Montgomery and tight ends Trey Burton and Adam Shaheen, who provide Trubisky with plenty of avenues in which to go with the ball.

While the Bears are returning 10 starters on one of the NFL’s best defenses, ultimately this team will go as far as Trubisky takes them.

This third year will be crucial in the evaluation of Trubisky, as well as the Bears’ Super Bowl window.
