ESPN expert picks Seahawks QB Russell Wilson to win 2019 MVP

Here’s a story you don’t read every day.

Someone other than a Seahawks fan is picking quarterback Russell Wilson to win this year’s Most Valuable Player.

Following the free-agent frenzy and the NFL draft, ESPN asked their panel of eight experts a number of questions looking ahead to the 2019 season.

One of those questions was who each would pick to earn the coveted MVP award.

Three of the experts voted for Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, two for Saints’ Drew Brees, and one each for Packers’ Aaron Rodgers and Falcons’ Matt Ryan.

National NFL writer Kevin Seifert cast the lone vote for Seattle’s signal caller.

“I’m sticking with Wilson even after the release of receiver Doug Baldwin, which puts more pressure on rookie DK Metcalf and others to produce right away,” Seifert noted. “Wilson demonstrated last season how much better the Seahawks are when the passing game is the focus of their offense. If coach Pete Carroll shifts his run-pass ratio just a bit, Wilson will dominate in 2019.”

Wilson has yet to add MVP to his resume, but if the new offensive pieces of the puzzle manage to fall into place, 2019 could be his year.
