ESPN asks commentators to take pay cuts: report

ESPN has reportedly asked its top-paid commentators to take temporary 15% pay cuts. | David Kohl/AP

ESPN has asked 100 of its top commentators to take temporary 15% pay cuts, Sports Business Journal reported.

The cuts would last about three months.

”We are asking about 100 of our commentators to join with our executives and take a temporary salary reduction. These are challenging times, and we are all in this together,” ESPN said in a statement sent to Sports Business Journal.

The pay reductions would help prevent furloughs for lower-paid employees, ESPN said. Network executives had already taken pay cuts.

Like many media outlets, ESPN has been hurt by the coronavirus pandemic forcing the cancellation of live sports, including the NBA and Major League Baseball.
