Dwayne Haskins and the Washington Redskins have been in the news a lot over the past 48 hours thanks to Doug Williams, the Vice President of Player Personnel.
Williams told the NFL Network that the ultimate decision of whether or not their rookie QB will start or not will be made by a group of people, including himself, owner Dan Snyder, President Bruce Allen and coach Jay Gruden.
It’s safe to say that the declaration hasn’t been received well by everyone.
On Thursday morning, ESPN’s Dianna Russini went on Get Up and expressed her feelings about the Redskins’ plan.
“Do you think Robert Kraft is sitting there telling Bill Bellicheck what to do? No,” Russini said. “You hire these people to run the football operation, you sit back, you own, you make the business decisions. The fact that the Redskins are openly admitting that they’re going to make a decision collectively, that’s why they’re an issue. This is why they’re going to be a problem.”
It’s not surprising that people in the media have a problem with how the Washington front office is choosing to handle things — they are widely believed to be one of the more mismanaged franchises in the sports landscape. But in the end, they will most likely get what they want.
“In the end, the owner is going to win this. Dan Snyder is going to play the guy he wants to play and that’s Dwayne Haskins.”
She may be right. Only time will tell.
