ESPN fantasy analyst projects Seahawks finish 2019 season with 6-10 record

Last season the Seattle Seahawks shocked the country when they won 10 games and returned to playoffs after a one-year hiatus. This of course came after an offseason rife with predictions the Seahawks were destined to collapse, have a losing season and miss the postseason once more.

Instead, the Seahawks bounced back in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year. The seemingly depleted Legion of Boom exceeded expectations and Seattle fielded the best rushing offense in football after two historically terrible years. However, it appears similar talk of doom and gloom for the Seahawks is starting to resurface this offseason.

ESPN fantasy analyst Mike Clay recently tweeted score projections for every single NFL game in 2019. Simply by counting the wins and losses he has projected for Seattle, it looks particularly onerous for the Seahawks.

According to Clay’s projections, the Seahawks are pegged to go 6-10 in 2019, with their only wins coming in:

Week 1 – Bengals 20 @ Seahawks 26

Week 7 – Ravens 21 @ Seahawks 24

Week 9 – Buccaneers 22 @ Seahawks 28

Week 13 – Vikings 22 @ Seahawks 23

Week 16 – Cardinals 21 @ Seahawks 25

Week 17 – 49ers 22 @ Seahawks 27

Already this projection for Seattle is fairly far fetched, especially considering the Seahawks still have quarterback Russell Wilson in his prime and the team drafted fairly well to build legitimate depth. But what will make Clay’s projections even tougher for most people to swallow is the fact this model has Seattle going 0-8 on the road.

The Seahawks have never been known as a dominant road team, but going winless away from the Pacific Northwest seems extremely improbable. Considering the only teams in NFL history to go winless on the road were the 2008 Detroit Lions and 2017 Cleveland Browns – both of which went 0-16 for the year – it does not seem likely a team with Wilson at the helm will be the third such team in league history to do so as well.

Considering the Seahawks do not make as many flashy moves as their division opponents, on some level it might make sense why Seattle sometimes gets overlooked in the offseason. But history has shown us it’s often a losing bet to count out the Seahawks.
