ESPN analyst calls this mock draft an A for the Steelers

The premise of ESPN NFL draft analyst Todd McShay’s latest mock draft is fairly simple. He went three rounds and claims to have given every team picks to land them an A in terms of NFL draft grade. This includes the Pittsburgh Steelers. This got us curious so we decided to take a closer look.

Here’s how McShay’s perfect three rounds went for the Steelers.

First round-CB Byron Murphy, Washington

Second round-LB Chase Winovich, Michigan

Third round-WR Miles Boykin, Notre Dame

Third round-RB Justice Hill, Oklahoma State

What I liked: No inside linebacker. With the addition of Mark Barron and how little the Steelers use two inside linebackers at the same time, there’s no reason to reach for one early in a pretty mediocre draft class beyond the top two.

What I didn’t like: Drafting Miles Boykin with Hakeem Butler on the board. And I like Boykin a lot. But having watched Butler dominate defenses last season it’s hard to see him get passed over for a guy who is still something of an unknown because of his underuse at Notre Dame.

Overall: Not sure this draft is an A but it’s solid for sure. Winovich fills a need even if he’s something of an unconventional player. And Hill’s speed would be a welcome addition to the Steelers’ offense.
