CHAI NAT: A drug offender who escaped from prison in Muang district of Chai Nat on Monday was arrested at a resort in a nearby district in the early hours of Wednesday.
Sophon Sroisungnoen, 28, alias Chang Thanya-udom, was caught in Wat Sing district by prison guards around 2am, Chai Nat prison chief Niphan Chamnianphan said on Wednesday.
Sophon escaped from Khao Phlong temporary prison in tambon Khao Tha Phra about 4pm on Monday, and the hunt for him began.
The arresting team earlier went to his house in tambon Hat Tha Sao of this central province, but he was not there.
They then followed up a tip off the escapee may have been hiding at a resort in Wat Sing district, where he was subsequently caught He did not put up any resistance, Mr Niphn said.
Sophon was sentenced to jail for drug offences in 2016 and as due for released in 2021. He would now face another charge of escaping from lawful custody, and an additional prison term, he said.
