Escape to the Chateau: When and where to watch as series 8 returns

Dick and Angel Strawbridge are set to return to TV screens this evening in the eighth series of Escape to the Chateau.

Since the Channel 4 series first aired in 2016, viewers have been treated to a heartwarming mix of family life, DIY and crafting.

The series saw Dick and Angel buy a 45-room French castle and set about turning it into a spectacular family home and wedding venue.

Many believe they had bitten off more than they could chew, having previously owned a two-bedroom flat in Southend.

However, they proved the detractors wrong, with Dick and Angel becoming global phenomenons as the show was broadcast across multiple countries.

More than 34 episodes have aired over the course of seven seasons, with more instalments available through spin-off shows such as Escape to the Chateau: DIY and Escape to the Chateau: Make Do and Mend.

It's been reported more than 2.5 million viewers tune in each week to watch the episodes when they are on television.

Despite the pandemic, the family still managed to film enough last year to get a season on air.

Season seven delivered the programme some of its best ratings to date as 3.1 million watched on average.

Deputy head of features and formats at Channel 4 Sean Doyle said: "Dick and Angel are hugely popular, as was seen by the reaction to Make Do and Mend and the record-breaking figures for Escape to the Chateau at the end of 2020. They are jewels in the Channel 4 crown.”

Head of Popular Factual at the production company Two Rivers, Liz Wootton said: "We are extremely proud to be making these series for Channel 4.

"Our strategic partnership with Chateau TV is important for us as a growing indie with ambitions to make programming which is both creatively strong and internationally successful.

"Working with Dick and Angel, some of the most popular talent on-screen today, is extremely exciting.

"And I am personally delighted to be building on our long-standing relationship," she continued in a statement.

When and where to watch the new series?

The news series begins this evening (October 24) at 8pm on Channel 4.

The preview description says Dick and Angel will return with “more family adventures and awe-inspiring projects”.

The first episode will see the pair creating a “luxurious bedroom in the original coach house”.
