Escape to the Chateau's Dick Strawbridge makes 'really grim' discovery

Dick Strawbridge made a "really grim" discovery as he and his wife Angel renovated the attic.

The couple decided to tackle the dusty room as they created a game and toy area for their children Arthur and Dorothy. Prior to Dick and Angel purchasing the 19th-century Château de la Motte-Husson in Martigné-sur-Mayenne, the property, owned by the Baglion de la Dufferie, had not been lived in for the previous forty years.

Over the course of the nine series of Escape to the Chateau, viewers have seen Dick and Angel restore the derelict château and most of its 45 rooms. However, one room they had yet to sort was the attic.

In the latest episode, Dick and Angel visited the unexplored area. Upon entering, Angel said: "It's scary", as the walls were covered in cobwebs and dust.

Dick then found a dead pigeon, also covered in dust, on the floor, which caused Angel to grimace. Dick said: "That is really grim".

He then joked that they had to clear "150 years of pigeon poo", but despite their initial grim outlook, the couple uncovered several antiques which had been left by the Baglion de la Dufferie family.

Among them were an old train set, a billiards table and a side saddle. Rather than throw the items away, Angel and Dick restored some of them, filling Arthur and Dorothy's new room with vintage toys as well as new ones.
