Escape to the Chateau's Angel Strawbridge 'felt isolated' after first child with Dick

Angel Strawbridge has spoken about feeling "isolated" after having her first child with husband Dick Strawbridge.

The 43-year-old star of Channel 4 series Escape to the Chateau, has opened up about her feelings after becoming a parent for the first time and how it wasn't the dreamy start to motherhood that she had expected.

Along with husband Dick, 62, they made a life changing decision in leaving Britain for a new life in France, where they bought Chateau de La Motte Husson, so they could renovate it with TV cameras following their every move.

Speaking candidly to the Sweat, Snot & Tears parenting podcast, Angel told presenters Annie and Wendy how she struggled with her feelings after becoming a mum.

Angel said that one of the biggest changes in her life was after giving birth for the first time.

She said: "The biggest change when I did feel a little bit isolated was when I had my first child.

“Because when I just was like: right, your whole life changes completely. (sic)

Angel admitted that becoming a mum had changed her perspective on life before she and Dick decided to ditch Blighty to renovate a run-down chateau.

She continued: "By the time I moved to France I was in a different mental state from before I had children.

"I was ready. And I think that’s the big thing.

"I think if you’re gonna do a move to somewhere like this, you really have to be ready for it."

The move to France also led to a big change in Angel's social life, which has been exacerbated in recent years by the coronavirus pandemic.

Previously, Angel would describe herself as a "social butterfly" who had a wild social life in London but nowadays she is a home girl who loves spending time at the chateau with her two children.

Angel admitted that while her kids settled into a French school without any problems, she was not finding any signs of friendship with the "Chateau set", which she had dubbed her posh neighbours.

Angel said: "I felt really uncomfortable, it was weird."
