Escape to the Chateau’s Angel accuses husband Dick of ‘sabotaging’ their garden

Tensions flared on Escape to the Chateau as husband and wife Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree disagreed over plans to create an extravagant garden flowerbed.

The couple star on the Channel 4 show which sees them renovating their French Chateau which dates from the 19th century.

As the duo renovate and re-sculpt their property into their dream home, disagreements have bubbled and tensions have risen.

And not least when Dick turned his attention to the sprawling gardens – and set to work digging up part of the lawn which he envisions will one day resemble a wild-flower meadow.

Angel, however, looked unimpressed when she found her husband atop a small digger while the ground before them had been dug up and upset.

Dick explained that he was creating a new meadow in front of their Orangery – and had dug up 3,500 square meters of ground to accommodate the new garden feature.

But Angel didn’t seem convinced, seeing the work in progress she asked: "Is it meant to look like that?”

She then added: “It looks like organised sabotage."

But Dick defended his DIY efforts and claimed: "This will be all wild-flowers when we finish. Trust me.”

Later scenes showed Dick getting to work planting all the seeds which will eventually transform the muddy mess into a beautiful flower-filled meadow.

He commented: “I’ve bought wild-flower seeds which means they’ll be in flower this year and three kilos of perennials.

“Which means that they’re going to flower year after year.

"I’m going to turn this very ugly ploughed field into something beautiful.”

Since sharing their renovations on TV, Dick and Angel have become something of a celebrity couple – which is something they are struggling to adjust to.

Speaking to the Mirror earlier this year, Dick said: "We are very normal and that’s the secret; people can see themselves in us.

"Viewers can see our relationship reflected in their own lives. We are definitely not a celebrity couple in our world."

In an effort to keep their lives off the ‘celebrity’ chart, Dick and Angel have refused to allow their show to be aired in France – however some tourists have tracked them down regardless.

The couple have, as a result, had to ask some over-zealous fans to leave their property after they overstepped the mark.

Angel explained: "Firstly, there is an issue of safety.

"If the kids are outside playing, no one would want strangers coming on to their land."

She added: "And then sometimes we are doing really silly things like wearing a floppy unicorn hat on the trampoline, and you do want a bit of privacy!"

Angel continued: "When that has happened, Dick has politely asked them to leave.

"We have never been horrible to anyone who has turned up here, but if somebody is in your house they have to behave."

While Dick added: "To be fair, we have opened ourselves up to allow people to follow our story, so really it is not a big problem."
