Escape to the Chateau fans' sadness as Dick and Angel drop bombshell

Fan of Channel 4's Escape to the Chateau fans were left saddened within seconds of the most recent episode starting. The fan-favourite Strawbridge family dropped a bombshell for some viewers - when they shared a touching farewell.

The latest show was the final ever instalment of the Channel 4 classic. For nine seasons the show has followed Dick Strawbridge and wife Angel Adoree - along with their children Arthur and Dorothy have been - as they traded life in Essex for a dilapidated 19th-century French chateau.

They touchingly said: "Only a few hours to go until our Christmas Extravaganza!!," Birmingham Mail reports. "Today is a special day here for us, apart from being the coldest, it’s the first day in 'as long as we can’t quite remember', that we are relaxing and winding down for Christmas.

"Arthur & Dorothy broke up from school on Friday and yesterday was dedicated to getting the house stocked for Christmas and being taxis for the children's social lives, but today we go with the flow, and 'smell the roses’. We can't quite believe tonight is the finale of Escape to the Chateau! What an incredible journey we have been on these last 8 years."

Fan Moira Jones tweeted: "Love Dick and Angel and their little family. I’m in bed with flu watching Escape to the Chateau thinking Dick and Angel could make me better.

"Just watching their lovely programme, their talent and how lovely they are with and too each other has perked me up already."

And @linzirob said: "I used to watch Escape to the Chateau after work with my Nan, she passed away suddenly in September and it makes me so sad that she didn't get a chance to see the final episode. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us Dick and Angel."

@marrt2704 tweeted: "Watched Escape to the chateau at Christmas. Sad its the last one. Been brilliant over the last 8 years and it will be missed. Thank you Dick & Angela for a great show."
