Escape rooms venture could open in East Yorkshire as plans revealed

A new escape rooms could soon be opening in Beverley after plans were submitted for the attraction.

The new venture, which if approved would open in Norwood, Beverley, would be the first of its kind in the East Yorkshire town.

Plans have shown the business would include four separate escape rooms, and be able to hold up to 24 people at a time.

The applicant wrote in the plans, submitted to East Riding Council: “We will be converting the current office building into an escape rooms…

“Escape rooms are live action activities in which groups of up to six have to ‘escape’ from a room using the puzzles and clues within.

“There are three such businesses in Hull but none in Beverley.”

The new escape rooms, if approved, would support one full-time and three part-time jobs.

It would be open Monday to Friday between 9am and 9pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 10pm.

“Eventual maximum capacity would be 24 customers, however we will be staggering the opening of our rooms, so we will only be opening with two rooms which would bring the initial capacity down to 15,” plans said.

“From our market research, the average group size is normally four or less people.”

Escape Rooms have seen a surge in popularity in recent years.

In Hull, a new similar business launched in late 2018.

Take The Exit, in Silver Street, was described by owner Matthew Greenacre as being the city’s scariest attraction.

Plans for the new attraction in Beverley, on the edge of the town centre, will now be considered by East Riding Council.
