‘Escape room’ finance chief finds way to board of Glasgow promotions firm

Glasgow-based retail promotions firm SpaceandPeople  has named the finance chief of an escape room experience business as a new board member.

Cambridge economics graduate and chartered accountant Graham Bird, who was recently appointed CFO of Escape Hunt, previously worked at Gresham House Asset Management and was also a senior executive at PayPoint.

Matthew Bending, chief executive of SpaceandPeople which sells space in shopping centres and other high footfall venues for promotional activity, said: “We look forward to working with him to continue the development of SpaceandPeople in the years ahead."

Escape Hunt operates more than 50 sites in the UK. Escape rooms lock teams in a room for an hour and require them to unlock a puzzle to break out.

In September SpaceandPeople warned that Brexit uncertainties in the UK and delays in contracts being signed off in Germany will hold back profits in its latest financial year. Although the company expects to return to profit after making a loss of £200,000 last year, it said the figure won’t reach the level it previously expected. It said “Brexit headwinds” were delaying its sales pipeline in the UK.
