Escape fail as lad jumps into Water of Leith to evade police capture - but can't swim

A young lad apparently tried to evade capture from the police this afternoon by jumping into the Water of Leith.

However, there was one huge failing in his plan to escape Police Scotland officers - as, unable to swim, he couldn't make it to the other side to run away.

Images of the chase were shared on Facebook by The Friends of the Water of Leith Basin.

The caption on the post read:

"Young lad wanted by the police tried to evade capture by hiding in Sheriff Bank; and then jumped into the river to escape. Unable to swim though he couldn't reach the other side."

The images show the police looking into the Water of Leith as the young lad stands with his head above water.

From other images it can be seen that the Scottish Fire and Rescue Services were also in attendance with a rescue dingy.
