ESB refused permission to convert Dublin Georgian House Museum into apartments

The ESB has been refused permission to convert the Georgian House Museum into apartments.

Dublin City Council refused planning permission to redevelop the townhouse on Fitzwilliam Street Lower into three luxury apartments.

Dublin City Council planners in a ruling stated: "The proposal would reduce the range of cultural and tourist activities in the city core and would set an undesirable precedent for the loss of further cultural facilities in the city."

An Taisce, Dublin Civic Trust, and the Irish Georgian Society had objected to the plans, RTE reports.

The museum opened its doors in 1991 in celebration of Dublin being crowned the European Cultural Capital.

ESB had restored the building on 29 Fitzwilliam Street Lower in 1988 and is located beside the company's original headquarters.
