Pricing plans for a public electric vehicle charging network were announced by ESB yesterday.
Owners will be able to either pay as they go for 33c per kilowatt or use a €5-per-month membership programme when the plan kicks in next month.
ESB’s Niall Hogan said: “For Ireland to meet the growing number of electric vehicles on our roads we need to ensure we have a reliable, accessible, country-wide public charging network.
“The introduction of pricing to fast public chargers is a natural step in ensuring we improve the network and maintain high standards into the future for electric vehicles.
“Today’s announcement of investment in the public EV charging network is another milestone in ESB leading Ireland’s transition to a low carbon economy.”
The €20million investment is 50% financed by the Government’s Climate Action Fund with the remainder from ESB. The pricing structure supports the current upgrade programme of ESB’s national infrastructure and plans to roll out its first high-power chargers next year.
Pricing is to be introduced for existing fast public chargers (50kW) in Ireland from November 18. This will be followed by the introduction of pricing for high-power chargers (150kW) once the first hubs are installed early next year.
Electric vehicle drivers can avail of an introductory offer for a limited time – from October 29 until the end of November – that provides the membership rate with no monthly subscription for 12 months.
