Yemeni Information Minister Muammar al-Eryani said his government will not set preconditions before its first meeting with new UN Envoy to the country Martin Griffith and further won't pre-empt events before knowing the mechanism through which the new envoy will move and his vision to reach a solution.
Eryani told Asharq Al-Awsat that the government welcomes all proposals put forward by the international community to achieve the peace process, including any possible meeting with the insurgents, especially since the government has already made many concessions in several positions with the aim ending the war and the militias' control over the state.
The Yemeni minister added that the government is doing all it can to achieve peace through a dialogue in which the Houthi militias abide by the implementation of UN resolution 2216 and the GCC initiative and its executive mechanism with the importance of abiding by the outcomes of the national dialogue.
This is the general framework of any future dialogues the new envoy intends to hold, Eryani said, explaining that his country will play its role to help Griffith succeed in his mission.
He stressed that the military action will continue unless insurgents were disarmed before calls for the dialogue take place.
“It makes no sense that the international community is calling for dialogue or peace, and the coupers still possess arms and commit criminal acts against the Yemeni people in areas that fall under their control."
He pointed out that the government is responsible for the Yemeni people in all cities, and it feels the pain experienced by citizens living in areas controlled by Houthis, who transformed them all, including Sana’a, into large prisons, imposed house arrest on urban residents and looted and killed civilians indiscriminately.
Houthis also looted wages of workers in all sectors under the so-called “support the war effort,” Eryani said, stressing mandatory disarmament.
