Erskine man who died after fatal New Year’s Day attack named by police

A man who died after a fatal New Year’s Day attack in Erskine as been named.

Darren Russell was found dead at the scene in the  Renfrewshire town at around 12.55pm on Friday.

The 21-year-old passed away after the incident broke out in Park Drive.

On Saturday cops revealed that three people had been arrested in connection and that enquiries were continuing.

They were 27-year-old woman, a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old man.

The 21 year-old man was later released without charge.

Officers and forensic teams have continued to comb the area as their investigations into the attack continue.

The street has been shut down by police since Friday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We can confirm the name of the man who died following an incident in Park Drive, Erskine on Friday 1 January 2021, as 21-year-old Darren Russell from Erskine.

"His family has asked for privacy at this time."

"A 27 year-old woman has been charged in connection with the death of a 21-year-old man in Park Drive, Erskine on Friday, January 1 2021.

"A 18 year-old man has been charged with assault.

"A 21 year-old man has been released without charge.

"The man and woman are expected to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Tuesday, January 5 2021."
