The Erskine Bridge is due to close again today after it was shut on Monday causing large tailbacks on the A82.
It is understood the closure is to allow a boat to pass by ensuring no risk to users of the bridge.
Police Scotland shut the route yesterday at short notice as Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior was passing underneath on its way to COP26 in Glasgow but wasn't set to clear the structure.
Traffic Scotland this afternoon tweeted: "Police Scotland will close the Erskine Bridge for a short period of time late this afternoon for public safety. The closure will be around 1630, subject to local tidal conditions. Traffic will be diverted and will be reopened as soon as possible."
On Monday, a member of the Save the Vale campaign group expressed concern over the closure as he worried ambulances could get caught in tailbacks and would struggle to get casualties to A&E in Paisley or Glasgow.
A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service told us: “We have plans in place for the duration of COP26 to mitigate any impact from road closures to ensure we maintain a response to communities at all times.
"During the closure of the bridge, our plans were implemented and there was no disruption to delivering care to patients.”
