Erskine Bridge partially closed as police report "concern for persons"

The Erskine Bridge has been partially closed this morning as a result of a police incident.

Officers from Police Scotland were called to the A898 road just after 11am earlier today.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We are currently dealing with a report regarding concerns for persons at the Erskine Bridge."

The bridge, which connects West Dunbartonshire with Renfrewshire across the River Clyde, was initially closed in both directions as cops deal with the situation.

The northbound carriageway has now reopened and there is one lane running on the southbound carriageway.

There is heavy traffic in the area due to the closure with Traffic Scotland urging motorists to use alternative routes.

In a statement on social media, Police Scotland said: "Motorists are advised to avoid the area at this time and to use an alternative route.

"We cannot currently offer a timescale on when the bridge will reopen and further information will be provided in due course."
