Erskine Bridge closed: Vale of Leven Hospital campaigner worried ambulances could be blocked due to protest

A hospital campaigner has told how he is worried an ambulance wouldn't be able to get to an emergency unti at hospital as the Erskine Bridge is currently closed.

Traffic Scotland confirmed that Police Scotland requested the route be shut from 2.30pm this afternoon "for public safety".

Activists on Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior are currently sailing up the Clyde, heading for Glasgow where climate summit COP26 is currently taking place.

A member of Save the Vale told the Lennox Herald this afternoon: "The A82 is gridlocked and no emergency services will be able to get through to any of the hospitals with A&E facilities."

There is disruption around the city due to the climate change conference and it is understood there is also congestion at the Clyde Tunnel, another major route over the river.

A river pilot has boarded the vessel to guide it as far as the COP26 security cordon downstream but there are reports the boat's skipper intends to sail as close to the SEC as possible, according to our sister paper the Daily Record .

Port authorities yesterday declined the Rainbow Warrior’s request to berth in Glasgow but Greenpeace said that the captain has “decided to ignore the warnings” and will attempt to dock later today.
