Eros Grezda shines as Rangers Colts battle back to beat Solihull Moors on penalties

Rangers outcast Eros Grezda was the main man as Graeme Murty's Colt side defeated Solihull Moors in the Tunnock's Caramel Wafer Cup.

The Albanian flop hasn't played a first team game this season but has been a regular for the reserves as they look to secure lower league silverware.

And they needed penalties to do it after fighting back from two goals down.

Rangers were the final U21 side left in the tournament and Grezda was the only overage player used against their English non-league opponents.

First team midfielder Jamie Barjonas also played after signing a new deal on Monday but is still underage for the tournament.

Graeme Murty named a squad that had an average age of just 18.5 but they battled hard against their more senior opponents.

The National League side had former Rangers loanee Gael Bigirimana on their bench, although the ex-Newcastle midfielder never played for the Ibrox side due to a health issue.

He did become a regular at Motherwell before a short spell at Hibs and only joined Solihull earlier on Tuesday - and he missed the decisive penalty.

Solihull took the lead early on when Calum Howe headed home after a long throw.

Rangers were level minutes later when Barjonas fired in from distance and the away side had chances through Grezda and Dapo Mebude.

But it was Solihull who went back in front when Adi Yussuf headed past Lewis Bundinaukas in the Rangers goal.

It was 3-1 on 60 minutes when Darren Carter curled a superb free kick into the back of the net and it looked like Rangers were down and out.

But Grezda got Rangers back in the game when he slotted home and Serge Atakayi and Mebude had chances to level.

They did eventually get the equaliser when Grezda added a second and took the game to penalties.

Rangers scored through Barjonas, Nathan Patterson, Grezda and Kai Kennedy while Bigirimana and Terry Hawkridge missed for Solihull.
