Eros Grezda facing Rangers exit door following incident at Ballymena Showgrounds

Eros Grezda is facing the exit door at Rangers after being accused of spitting at an opponent during Wednesday night's Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup game against Ballymena United.

It is alleged that Grezda spat at Sky Blues defender Andrew Burns during the third round die, which Rangers Colts won 1-0 at the Showgrounds.

First-team manager Steven Gerrard is set to hold a disciplinary meeting with the Albanian international next week.

Gerrard said: “If you behave in that manner then you won’t represent this club at any level. We’re trying to be respectful.

"No one behaves like that and wears the Rangers shirt, so there will be a disciplinary situation.

“We will address it internally. But I need to sit down and speak face to face and get the player’s version of events.

“I’ve had some witness versions of it, so I’m aware of what’s gone on.

“We will deal with it, but it’s something I’m not happy with at all.

“There is no place for  it on a football pitch, if he’s guilty of it.”

Rangers teammate Greg Docherty went into the Ballymena dressing room after the match to apologise for Grezda’s behaviour.

Sky Blues boss David Jeffrey said Colts boss Graeme Murty and Mark Hateley also said sorry.

Grezda has already been deemed surplus to requirements at Ibrox, with Gerrard admitting the player knows where his future lies.

Gerrard said: “Grezda’s been told what his situation is. He’s been advised to find a different challenge for himself. His representation is aware of that.

“But we’re trying to give him game time to keep his fitness levels up.

“There are a few niche markets and windows open around the world that might suit him.”

Grezda has flopped since his £1.5million move from Osijek last season and has started only seven games, scoring twice, all in the last campaign.
