The track I'll be opening my next DJ set with
Crackboy: Something For
Brilliant, off-kilter and downright weird. We need more club music like this, please.
The track I always play to rescue a dancefloor
Gingy & Bordello: Body Acid (KiNK's On Acid Mix)
Right now, for me, it's simply the best club record out there. If this can't rescue a dancefloor then humanity is doomed.
The track that's been unfairly slept on this year
Hot Natured: Forward Motion
I thought this would be a huge hit. The chorus is brilliant; after I first heard it, I couldn't dislodge it from my brain for a month.
The track i'd play at sunset in Ibiza
Connan Mockasin: Forever Dolphin Love (Erol Alkan Rework)
I had an image of the sun sinking into the sea as I made the track. I tend to work that way in general, trying to form a narrative for myself to trace over musically.
The ideal festival track
Kölsch: Loreley
A good example of a record which can be smart and smash any festival to pieces. Simple but not stupid, possibly one of the best club records of the last few years.
The track I wish i'd never played
Erol Alkan: Various works in progress
I tend to not play records I regret, apart from my own unfinished, work-in-progress tracks. But the regret is usually a good sign as it means the track's definitely not finished and needs to be looked at.
The track that got me out of bed this morning
A Certain Ratio: Wild Party
It came on at random on my iTunes. Sounds a bit like Talking Heads covering Nirvana. It's not my favourite ACR moment but it's all right.
The best track by my favourite new artist
Kindness: One from his new album
Kindness's music is full of heart and soul. The album comes out next year and it's one of the best I've heard in a while.
The track I'd play at my auntie's wedding
Stevie Wonder You Are The Sunshine Of My Life
Flawless. The best wedding record ever created; absolute perfection for the occasion.
The track that should have been a crossover hit
Metronomy: Corinne
Well, it sounds like a hit to me. I'm sure there is a parallel universe somewhere where this is No 1 for months …
