Ernie Johnson explained why he wasn’t on the call for ‘The Match’ in heartfelt video

If you’re wondering why Ernie Johnson wasn’t in the booth calling The Match: Champions for Charity since it was a Turner event, there’s a really good reason why he stayed home.

If you already know the reason? Well, Johnson’s video essay below is worth rewatching at least one more time.

Johnson delivered three minutes about what we’re all going through during the coronavirus pandemic, and in it, he talked about his 31-year-old son Michael, who has been on a ventilator for nine years.

“He gets lung infections all the time,” Johnson said, “and I didn’t think it was worth the risk of bringing in an unseen foe into our house.”

He concluded with powerful words: “Here’s to staying safe, remaining hopeful and here’s to doing it together.”
