Ernesto Valverde feels 'supported' at Barcelona after lunch with president Josep Maria Bartomeu

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde says he is not worried about his future at the Catalan club and claims he feels 'supported' after eating with president Josep Maria Bartomeu this week.

Valverde has faced fierce criticism from fans and the media since Barca's 3-1 loss at Levante last Saturday and that increased following a dour draw at home to Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Asked in a press conference on Friday if he was concerned about his future, Valverde simply said: "No."

And about the wave of criticism he has received, he said: "Whether I understand it or not, it is how it is. I haven't much more to say. If the game had gone better, everyone would be more relaxed.

"We have to accept the things as they come. Everything can change for the better."

The 55-year-old was also asked if he had heard from Bartomeu after the difficulties this week.

"I ate with him," he said. "And he has always supported me. I feel supported."

Barca remain on top of La Liga, but are level on points with second-placed Real Madrid and Real Sociedad ahead of Saturday's game at home to Celta Vigo and only a point clear of Atletico and Sevilla (in fourth and fifth, respectively).

"We have the need to win," Valverde said. "We lost a match in the space of six minutes against Levante. We have to get back on track by winning three points.

"We know what losing means in this team. And we want to stay in the lead."
