Ernakulam: District collector urges international passengers to undergo 14-day quarantine amid Omicron scare

KOCHI: District collector Jafar Malik has urged all the travellers from abroad to undergo 14-day quarantine in view of Omicron being reported among passengers who arrived from non–at risk countries too.

All the three passengers who tested positive for Omicron variant of SARS-Cov-2 have come from Congo and UAE, which are not in the at risk country list of the government.

All the passengers from at risk countries are subjected to PCR tests and sent home if tested negative, to undergo quarantine. While those from non-at risk countries are not subjected to tests. Only random test is conducted among them. In view of this, the collector said those coming from non-at risk countries should undergo isolation for 14 days. He said cases under Disaster Management Act and Kerala Epidemic Diseases Act will be charged against those violating the quarantine norms.

Meanwhile, Ernakulam on Saturday reported 437 Covid positive cases with a test positivity rate (TPR) of 6.23%.
