Erling Haaland transfer 'race', Darwin Nunez edge and more Man City rumours

Manchester City will have one eye on the upcoming transfer window as they continue their defence of the Premier League title.

Pep Guardiola 's side broke the British transfer record to sign Jack Grealish for £100 million from Aston Villa in the summer.

City wanted a striker but were not able to get one before the transfer window closed at the end of August, with Harry Kane and Erling Haaland of Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund respectively both heavily linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium.

A striker certainly looks on the agenda in the next transfer window if not in the summer with Gabriel Jesus the only senior centre-forward on City's books at present.

Here we look at the latest City transfer talk and what is being said about Guardiola's side in the press...

Haaland race begins

City are reportedly one of the sides keen on Haaland when his release clause falls to around £77m.

The Spanish newspaper AS, via Sport Witness, reports that a 'race' has begun for the player with La Liga giants Real Madrid also linked with a move for the Norwegian superstar.

Dortmund held on to the player last summer with no club willing to pay what the German club wanted for Haaland.

Barcelona are also credited with an interest in Haaland but it seems unlikely they will make a move.

City hold Nunez edge

City reportedly think they have an edge on other clubs for the signature of Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.

Nunez has set tongues wagging after netting twice in the Champions League in midweek against Barcelona.

The Daily Star claims that Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are also keen on the 22-year-old.

But City's previous dealings with Benfica for Ederson and Ruben Dias could mean the channels of communication could be opened quicker.

Spurs snub opens City door

City reportedly have a long-standing interest in Villarreal defender Pau Torres.

Marca reports that City have been checking on the player for a while but the defender wants to remain at Villarreal, potentially for another season.

Torres, 24, is from Villarreal and has been with the club since he was five years-old.

He was linked with Tottenham in the summer but remained in Spain.
