Erling Haaland to Liverpool would be 'ideal' transfer says Fabio Capello

Liverpool would be the "ideal" destination for Erling Haaland when he leaves Borussia Dortmund, according to Fabio Capello.

The former England coach claimed Reds boss Jurgen Klopp would make Haaland an even better player as the Norwegian striker got back to business on the day the Bundesliga returned.

Haaland scored the opener and chipped in with an assist as Dortmund the Bundesliga returned following the coronavirus lockdown with a 4-0 victory over Schalke.

The 19-year-old, who was a target for Manchester United in the January transfer window, now has a hugely impressive tally of 41 goals in 34 games this season.

Earlier on in the campaign, Liverpool were on the wrong end of Haaland's prodigious goalscoring output when he scored past them for Red Bull Salzburg.

His goals earned him an £18million move to Dortmund in January - after United pulled out of talks - and he is now believed to have a £63m release clause in his contract which can be activated from 2022.

If he keeps up his prolific scoring form until then there will undoubtedly be a scramble for his services - and Capello said on Sky Sports Italia that Liverpool would be the "ideal" Premier League club for 6ft 3ins Haaland to join.

The Italian, who managed the England team from 2007 to 2012, said Haaland's size, speed and direct style would make him the perfect player for Liverpool's system.

He also referenced Klopp's renowned abilities to turn his players into world beaters - as the Reds boss has done with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Liverpool signed Haaland's former Salzburg teammate Takumi Minamino in January, and Reds fans would no doubt be excited at the prospect of adding Haaland to a front line that is one of the most feared throughout Europe.

And former England striker Gary Lineker reckons Haaland is going to make "a lot of noise" as his career develops.

With Saturday's match held behind closed doors and team celebrations banned due to social distancing rules, Haaland was left to relish his goal by himself as his team-mates stayed away.

Shortly after he scored, Lineker took to , saying: "This young man is going to make a lot of noise in our game even if his goals, for now, are greeted with silence."
