Erling Haaland talks confirmed by Salzburg chief as Man Utd face transfer battle

Red Bull Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed that Erling Haaland travelled to Germany for discussions with Borussia Dortmund and Red Bull Leipzig on Wednesday.

Haaland has enjoyed a stunning season so far, scoring 28 goals in just 22 appearances and attracting the attention of Europe's giant clubs.

Liverpool and Manchester United have both been linked with the 19-year-old ahead of the January transfer window, while Juventus and Real Madrid are reported to be keeping tabs on the youngster.

But it now looks as though Germany could be the next destination for the striker.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Freund said: "We are involved in all discussions. Of course, we also knew that Haaland was in Leipzig and Dortmund yesterday.

"Everyone in Salzburg wants the best for him."

Meanwhile in Germany, Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc refused to comment on Haaland ahead of their Bundesliga trip to Mainz 05 on Saturday.

"The focus is on our game in Mainz. To everything else there is no comment," he said.

It is rumoured that Dortmund have made signing the Norwegian their number one target for the January window, as current striker Paco Alcacer has only started six league games due to injury.

RB Leipzig is another club in Germany after Haaland's signature and is a relatively likely destination due to being Salzburg's sister club.

Ahead of Salzburg's Champions League tie with Liverpool on Tuesday, Haaland responded to rumours linking him with a move away from the Red Bull Arena: "I just focus on my job, playing football, and to enjoy what I do every day and to go in with a clear mindset, to be in the present, and enjoy the moment right now."

Liverpool won the match 2-0 to knock the Austrian Champions out of the competition and into the Europa League knock-out stages.
