Erling Haaland shows Manchester United what they're missing with Dortmund debut hat-trick

Manchester United are determined to sign a striker despite missing out on Erling Braut Haaland - and the 19-year-old striker has already shown what he can do for Borussia Dortmund.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made Haaland his top attacking target in the run-up to the January transfer window after the Norwegian scored eight goals for RB Salzburg in the Champions League group stages.

However, Standard Sport understands that United eventually turned down the chance to sign Haaland, who then decided to make the switch from Austria to Germany and instead sign for Dortmund.

United balked at the conditions required to land the 19-year-old, and it is believed both Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, and father, Alf-Inge, were demanding a percentage of future sales of the teenager.

It’s believed the terms of the agreement would have seen Raiola control the sell-on for Haaland, which United refused to accept during negotiations - and United's loss is Dortmund's gain.

The Bundesliga title hopefuls boast a young, exciting front line with England international Jadon Sancho among their options, and look the ideal club for Haaland to hone his talents before potentially making a switch to either a Premier League or LaLiga giant.

Haaland got his first chance to shine for Dortmund on Saturday, coming on after 56 minutes just after BVB went 3-1 down away to Augsburg - and the striker wasted no time in announcing himself with a goal three minutes into his debut.

Sancho was the provider, and the England youngster then scored to equalise two minutes after Haaland's strike.

But Dortmund weren't done there as Haaland nabbed his second with 20 minutes left on the clock - and he completed his hat-trick nine minutes later.

So, three goals in 23 minutes for Dortmund - not a bad return so far!
