Erling Haaland's role in Mo Salah's Liverpool saga as fresh £30m problem comes to light

Liverpool may have been celebrating a surprise January transfer window after they snatched Luis Diaz from Tottenham 's grasp, but it's a deal involving one of their own players that the fans are still eagerly awaiting.

Mohamed Salah has been locked in contract talks with Liverpool for some time, but despite the fact that the Egyptian has made it clear that he wants to stay, a new deal is yet to be announced.

Salah's contract expires at the end of next season, so although there is still plenty of time, Liverpool don't want to leave themselves vulnerable if the saga drags on for too long.

Although Salah will stay at Anfield, Erling Haaland will almost certainly be on the move this summer, but the Norwegian may have handed Liverpool a new problem.

There isn't much of a debate when it comes to naming Salah among the best players in the world at this moment in time, and the Egyptian has been sensational ever since joining Liverpool in 2017.

Salah has been the club's top scorer consistently, and this season has perhaps been his most impressive, breaking a multitude of records as he was in the conversation at this years Ballon d'Or awards.

Also in that conversation is Haaland, and he and Kylian Mbappe are expected to be lead the next generation of young talent, as both are considered the next best thing in world football.

Salah's new deal has hit a stumbling block as it's been reported that the Egyptian is asking for £400,000-a-week, but according to ESPN, for Haaland to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, he wants £500,000-a-week.

Indeed, the eye-watering figure would see Haaland collect around £30million a year, should potential suitors agree to his incredible demands.

Therefore, Ian Wright is concerned that this may hand Liverpool a new problem, as he believes that Salah deserves to earn as much as Haaland for what he brings to the club.

Wright said: "We’d have to be talking in the same money as Haaland and Mbappe with what he’s done we have to be talking in that money to replace him so for me, he has to be signed up."

Despite Salah's wage demands, the Egyptian told GQ : "They know what I want. I’m not asking for crazy stuff," and explained that "the thing is when you ask for something and they show you they can give you something, (they should) because they appreciate what you did for the club."

Salah has been nothing short of a revelation at Liverpool, and has been one of the major factors in their Premier League and Champions League success under Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool are in an incredibly fortunate position with Salah, as it's not everyday that you have a player of his magnitude that openly wants to commit his long-term future.

The power is in Liverpool's hands, as Salah told Sky Sports: "It doesn’t depend on me, but if you asked me I would love to stay until the last day of my football (career)."

It would be a huge mistake to let Salah go, and it would be an almost impossible task to replace him, with the Egyptian thriving in his prime.
