Erling Haaland's father makes Manchester United admission after Liverpool transfer claim

Former Manchester City and Leeds United midfielder Alf-Inge Haaland has spoken about the future of his son Erling amid links with Liverpool.

Haaland today beat off competition from the likes of Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden to land the Golden Boy Award for 2020.

The 20-year-old, who was born in Leeds during his father's time with the Whites, has thrived at Borussia Dortmund since his move from RB Salzburg during the 2020 January transfer window.

His former club in RB Salzburg believe that he will eventually end up at Liverpool and now his father Alf-Inge has opened up with a verdict on his son's future and discussed rumours of a move to Manchester United.

"When you play well, it's only logical that big clubs knock on the door. But we're talking about speculation here,"  Alf-Inge said, per Sport.  "At the moment it is not in Erling's or in my head that another club will be vying for him. We signed a long contract with Dortmund and BVB have a fantastic team for Erling right now. We don't want to look any further yet.

"You never know what will happen. We haven't talked about such a step yet. I think he would like to win some trophies with Dortmund. That is his goal. Erling can still achieve a lot in Germany and make great progress. Abroad is not a priority for us.

"At the moment he is happy in the Bundesliga. The question is difficult to answer. Football is always new and different, and at the moment it's focused on Dortmund.

"I don't think the bosses need to be clearer (about demanding him to stay). You take good care of him and are very happy with his performance. He can play almost every week and thank him with many goals for the team.

"It's hard to compare the different clubs. Manchester United have achieved great success in recent years. The club is also trying to build something new there. But to make this comparison now is not so easy because he is already playing in Dortmund.

"These are two very traditional clubs with a huge fan base and a glorious history. Man United is a very proud club, just like Dortmund in Germany. And Dortmund want to beat FC Bayern soon , that's the clear goal. We have to catch up with the Munich team. Erling wants to cling to this goal."
