Welcome to the latest installment of City Is Ours Manchester City media watch.
Even after the acquisition of midfield magician Jack Grealish, the discussion surrounding the Premier League champions was dominated by the hunt for a new striker.
On Wednesday, that hunt got a whole lot more complicated.
Kane confirms Spurs stay
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy appears to have won the day after Harry Kane announced on social media he is staying in north London.
"It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I've had in the last few weeks," he said in a social media post.
"I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success".
The England captain confirming he will remain a Tottenham player now opens the door to speculation over several alternative strikers.
Despite their main target confirming he is going nowhere, there are some seismic players in the world of football who could pique City's interest.
Mbappe admires move away from Paris
After leaving a contract offer from PSG unsigned, Kylian Mbappe seems increasingly likely to begin a new challenge elsewhere. Real Madrid have positioned themselves at the front of the queue, but City fans would love to dream.
Pep Guardiola has long been a huge admirer of Mbappe and praised the forward before the first leg of last season's Champions League semi-final.
“[Mbappe] is a top player. He’s already a champion in France, [he won] the World Cup. He's an exceptional player. He looks like a nice guy. [Benjamin] Mendy is his friend and always tells me he’s an exceptional person."
How does Mendy finally win the City fans over? Simple. Call his good friend Mbappe and convince him to come and play for the Premier League champions.
French outlet RMC Sport claim an 'unnamed’ team from England have shown concrete interest in Mbappe. Chelsea signing Romelu Lukaku, Man United still having Edinson Cavani and City’s clear statement of intent to sign a striker might tempt some to put two and two together.
Spanish giants Real Madrid bid £137m for Mbappe, as per Sky Sports, and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, PSG will most certainly be interested in any substantial offers for the 21-year-old.
Theoretically, the money City were willing to spend on Kane could be used to engineer a move that would see Mbappe play at the Etihad Stadium, but we all know transfers unfortunately are not as straightforward as that.
Mino Raiola wishful wage demands
When City's Champions League conquerors Chelsea enquired about the potential signing of Erling Haaland, they were met with something that can only be described as a Mino Raiola price.
Haaland’s agent Raiola purportedly demanded £34million as well as a salary all for himself if the London club wanted the Norway star.
The Daily Mail reported that, within a deal amounting to a staggering £257m overall, Haaland would have received £820,000-a-week. Those astronomical figures begin to explain why Haaland is still a Dortmund player and City took their interest elsewhere.
Ronaldo returning to England?
Several reports have surfaced implying five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo would like a move away from Juventus. There is no denying his wealth of experience and bulging trophy cabinet, but could Ronaldo be the answer to City’s striker issue?
Ronaldo's history at United means the links are a divisive issue for City fans, but the failure to secure Kane now casts this possibility in a fresh light.
City have ignored offers of Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann and Ronaldo during this window already, but now the game has changed.
