Erling Haaland's £17m Borussia Dortmund transfer could be great news for Arsenal and Man United

The January transfer window is still a few days from officially opening, but there's already been some big deals announced.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will rejoin AC Milan on an initial six-month deal following his release from LA Galaxy and Premier League leaders Liverpool have bolstered their squad with the signing of Takumi Minamino from Red Bull Salzburg.

Speaking of the Austrian outfit, they've been involved in another big transfer.

Premier League match preview: Arsenal v Manchester United

On Sunday afternoon it was announced that young striker Erling Braut Haaland will join Borussia Dortmund on January 3 for a fee of just £17.1m.

The Bundesliga beat the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Juventus and many other clubs to the Norwegian international's signature and the 19-year-old can't wait to get started for his new club.

"There was a feeling right from the start that I absolutely wanted to switch to this club, go this route and play football in this incredible Dortmund atmosphere in front of more than 80,000 spectators," he said .

"I'm already burning for it."

Meanwhile, Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke explained how his club won the race for Haaland: "Despite many offers from absolute top clubs from all over Europe, Erling Haaland decided on the sporting task at BVB and the perspective that we have shown him.

"Our tenacity has paid off."

Whilst a number of rival supporters have been teasing Man United fans over missing out on Haaland , this transfer could actually be fantastic news for the Red Devils.

As well as Arsenal.

Just before Christmas, Red Bull Salzburg dropped into the Europa League after finishing third in their Champions League group which contained Liverpool and Napoli.

Haaland was superb in the group phase, netting eight - the second most in the competition - so his departure is likely to weaken Salzburg and boost United and Arsenal's chances of lifting the trophy come May.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side could yet claim a top four finish in the Premier League, but with the Gunners way off the pace following a 2-1 loss against Chelsea, the Europa League is their best chance of sealing a return to the Champions League in 2020.
