Erling Haaland opens up on the Man Utd legends he's always looked up to

Erling Haaland is already an inspiration to youngsters the world over, but the Borussia Dortmund forward has revealed the players he idolised when he was growing up.

The Norway international has developed a reputation for himself as one of Europe's bright young talents and has netted 36 goals in 33 appearances for club and country this term.

The 19-year-old netted 25 goals in 23 games for previous club Red Bull Salzburg, which earned the teenager a €20m move to Dortmund in the January transfer window.

Haaland has hit the ground running with the Bundesliga giants and had 12 goals in 11 games before the coronavirus outbreak brought a halt to football across Europe.

Such scintillating scoring form has seen the Norwegian star earn a legion of fans across the globe with youngsters trying to mimic his style.

But the the son of former Leeds and Man City midfielder Alf Inge has revealed who he found himself looking up during his formative years.

"My biggest idol as a child, I had a lot of good players (to look up to)," he said in Q&A session on Dortmund's YouTube channel.

"From Zlatan (Ibrahimovic) to (Cristiano) Ronaldo, to these kind of guys.

"I cannot say one, so I'll say two: Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic."

Haaland certainly seems to have learned his goalscoring prowess from watching both Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic, who have been among Europe's most fearsome finishers over the past decade.

The teenage sensation also looks to have leaned on the duo's athletic ability too, with both Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic both also possessing extraordinary physical skills.

Haaland's raw speed was highlighted during Dortmund's Champions League victory over PSG in February, while some of his goals have seen powerful finishes reminiscent of Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic in their pomp.

And after naming his two idols, maybe Haaland will feature on the list of the next bright young thing's inspirations when growing up in a decade's time.
