Erling Haaland names former Manchester United duo as his heroes

Erling Haaland has named former Manchester United duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as his two football idols.

The Norwegian international is regarded as one of the most exciting players in world football, and he is drawing his inspiration from two United favourites.

Haaland rose to stardom earlier this season as he netted 25 goals in 23 games for Red Bull Salzburg, form which earned him a move to Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had attempted to recruit a long-term centre forward in the winter but Haaland rejected United in favour of joining Dortmund.

The 19-year-old has carried on his scintillating form in Germany and already had an incredible 12 goals in 11 games before the coronavirus pandemic halted football across Europe last month.

Haaland will be looking to maintain his fine form when football finally resumes later this year and he will be hoping to one day emulate two legends who have both graced Old Trafford.

“My biggest idol as a child, I had a lot of good players (to look up to),” he said in Q&A session on Dortmund’s YouTube channel.

“From Zlatan (Ibrahimovic) to (Cristiano) Ronaldo, to these kind of guys.

“I cannot say one, so I’ll say two: Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.”
