Erling Haaland "mad" at Dortmund boss Lucien Favre for subbing him after four-goal haul

Erling Haaland joked he was "mad" with Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre after he was substituted in the 5-2 win at Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

Haaland, 20, was taken off in the 85th minute after plundering four goals in the second half to complete an emphatic comeback victory at Olympiastadion.

Haaland's four-goal showing capped a phenomenal weekend during which he also won the coveted Golden Boy award for 2020.

It also took his tally for the season to 15 goals in just 12 games in all competitions, while the victory moved Dortmund to within one point of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.

But the Norway international was frustrated to have been taken off as he searched for a fifth goal and had a bone to pick with his manager after the match.

Haaland told ESPN : "To be honest after the game, [Favre] asked me how many I scored. He asked me: 'Did you score three?'

“I said: 'No, four. Only four because you subbed me out.' So I’m a bit mad at him right now but that’s how it is."

Haaland was replaced by striker Youssoufa Moukoko, who became the youngest player in Bundesliga history as he made his long-awaited debut aged 16 years and one day.

Meanwhile, Favre was delighted with his side's showing after they recovered from 1-0 down at half-time thanks to four goals from Haaland and one from Raphael Guerreiro.

"It’s true because I am not just watching the goals, I am watching the passes too," Favre told ESPN .

“[At half-time I said] we have to keep playing this way, play the ball forward more, make more runs into the box and the team did that immediately in the second half.”

Dortmund have won six and lost two of their opening eight league games, with their most-recent defeat coming to rivals Bayern before the international break.

Haaland scored in the 3-2 defeat, but the division's top scorer, Robert Lewandowski, was also on target to net his 11th goal of the season.
