Erling Haaland issues heartfelt Borussia Dortmund message ahead of Man City transfer

Erling Haaland has sent an emotional 'thank you' message to Borussia Dortmund after playing his final game for the club ahead of joining Manchester City this summer.

Last Tuesday, City, who will be aiming to move one step closer towards wrapping up the Premier League title when they travel to West Ham United on Sunday afternoon, announced that they had reached an agreement with Dortmund to sign the striker this summer, subject to personal terms being agreed. It is understood that City will bring him to the Etihad Stadium for £51million.

Haaland, who marked his final outing in Dortmund colours with a goal, scoring a penalty in their final day Bundesliga victory over Hertha Berlin, will officially join City when the transfer window opens. His addition to Pep Guardiola's squad is a huge statement of intent from the club and shows that they mean business ahead of next term.

Since joining Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in December 2019, Haaland has blossomed into one of the most highly-rated players in the world and leaves the club with an outstanding record in front of goal, scoring 86 goals in just 89 appearances. He also registered 23 assists during that time.

Having made a real name for himself at Dortmund, it is only natural that the Norwegian international, who was born in Leeds, will feel a slight tinge of sadness at leaving the club. And that has shown in an emotional message he has shared on social media following his final game in Dortmund colours.

Haaland said: "It has been nothing but an honour to wear this shirt. At @BVB, I've spent memorable moments, met special people, not to mention a fanbase that has been always our extra man on the pitch.

"The Yellow Wall is truly incredible. I'll never forget any of this! Thank you, all!"

After Dortmund's 2-1 triumph over Hertha on Saturday, Haaland was presented with a bunch of flowers and a collage of some sort with a series of photos of himself in Dortmund colours. He will go down as one of their greatest players of all time, despite only being 21, and will now look to replicate a similar sort of goals return at City.

On bringing Haaland to the club, City boss Guardiola said: "Big congratulations to the club, he is signed for the next years. He is a young talented player, I'm very pleased he decided to come and join us.

"Next season we are going to work together and hopefully he can settle, help him to settle as soon as possible in terms of Manchester and a house. I am pretty sure he is going to adapt quickly to the way we want to play."
