Martin Odegaard could make his Arsenal debut against Manchester United on Saturday evening.
The 22-year-old has joined the Gunners on loan from Real Madrid until the end of the season, making him the third January recruit for the north London side.
Odegaard's signing will provide a boost to Arsenal's creativity in the final third, where they have often been lacking this season, but questions have been asked about what the move means for Emile Smith Rowe.
The Hale End graduate has excelled in a number 10 role for Arsenal this season but his place in that role could be under threat.
In fact, Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, a teammate of Odegaard at international level with Norway, has spoken about how Mikel Arteta can get the best out of the playmaker.
"It will be interesting. Arsenal is a big club in England. It's a bit different football, but I think he can fit in well with Mikel Arteta in the 10-role. He can enjoy himself there," Haaland told VGTV.
"He has to get in there and simply start playing matches. That's what he needs.
"We know how good Ødegaard can be.
"When he gains confidence with the ball, we know that the most incredible things can happen. So he just has to go green there."
While there has been concerns about what the signing means for Smith Rowe, Arteta has regularly spoken about the need to rotate and have different options.
Speaking after the 3-1 victory over Southampton, he said: "We expect them to play every game of the season 50 games without preseason at that age I'm sorry but it’s impossible and I'm not going to do that with the young players."
That shows both players will have a role to play until the end of the season, with Arsenal battling on two fronts as their Europa League campaign will continue next month.
