Erling Haaland has already revealed his Champions League dream as Chelsea make decision

Chelsea may want to rethink plans to join the new European Super League.

The big news in football at the moment surrounds a breakaway competition that the Blues along with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Barcelona, and Real Madrid are the founding fathers of.

This new format will act as a direct rival to the UEFA Champions League, but not as a replacement to domestic leagues, namely the Premier League or La Liga.

Should this new competition successfully form, it means competing in European football's current elite competition will no longer be an option for Chelsea and their fellow founding members.

As a result, this proposal could have an impact on the Blues' summer transfer plans.

It's no secret that Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, but given his dream is to win the Champions League, this stance could be a massive blow for Chelsea.

"My biggest dream is obviously to win the Champions League," Haaland told Tuttosport back in December. "I want to win trophies with Dortmund.

"Right now, Bayern Munich are the best team in the world and we have to find a way to reach a higher level and beat them.

"We will try, with all our strength."

Furthermore, Haaland's love for the Champions League was on display when Dortmund faced Man City in the quarter-final first-leg earlier in the month.

Prior to kick-off at the Etihad Stadium, the Norway international was spotted singing along to the famous Champions League anthem, which was possibly a transfer message to his potential suitors.

Based on Haaland's actions before facing Man City, it would seem that the Blues must make sure they are in the Champions League if they're serious about signing the 20-year-old.

However, it would appear that won't be the case from next season onwards which could cost them the chance to sign one of the most prolific strikers in world football.
