Erling Haaland dismisses Man City debut concerns in message to critics

Erling Haaland says he is not concerned about settling in the Premier League or at Manchester City following his move from Borussia Dortmund.

The £51m signing of Haaland from Borussia Dortmund brought an end to City's two-year search for an elite striker, after they played much of the past two seasons without an out-and-out striker. City fought tooth-and-nail to convince the 22-year-old to join them over Real Madrid; 86 goals scored in 89 games for Dortmund made it no easy task as Haaland became the most sought-after young player in world football.

Haaland made his competitive debut for Pep Guardiola's side in the Community Shield meeting with Liverpool last weekend, but endured a frustrating afternoon as he missed a late sitter as City lost 3-1.

There was much fanfare around the player's arrival, understandable given his reputation and the weight of expectation placed upon him. But according to the Norway international, such pressure to immediately settle and find his goal-scoring form is worrying him.

"We will see about settling in," Haaland said in an interview with Sky Sports.

"People can take time, people can come directly into it. We have to see, but I'm not concerned. That's life as a footballer — you have to live with it.

"You are a kind of entertainer. You get judged every single week for what you do on the pitch and you have to deliver and do your best. For me as a striker, this is something I cannot stress about because if you think too much, you might end up doing things you don't want to do.

"It's all about trying to enjoy, live in the moment. People talk about what you did a year ago, but it's the next game that counts."
