Erling Haaland and ex-Liverpool FC star Emre Can react to Dortmund's Sancho claim amid Manchester United transfer saga

Emre Can and Erling Braut Haaland are the latest players to express their delight over Borussia Dortmund's claims that Jadon Sancho will be staying at the club.

Sancho is Manchester United's top transfer target this summer but they were dealt a huge blow on Monday when sporting director Michael Zorc announced that the 20-year-old would be staying put after the August 10 deadline imposed by the club passed without a transfer being completed.

"We plan with Jadon Sancho. He'll play for us next season. The decision is final. I think that answers all of the questions," Zorc said from Dortmund's pre-season training camp in Switzerland.

"Last summer we adjusted the salary to the performance development of Jadon. So in context, we had already extended the contract until 2023."

Although M.E.N. Sport understands that United have not given up on the signing, Dortmund's star players have been reacting to Zorc's claim that Sancho will be remaining their teammate.

Prolific striker Haaland, who was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford himself before opting for the Bundesliga, told Ruhr Nachrichten : “Jadon is a fantastic player, so I’m very happy that he is staying. I’m sure he’ll give me a couple of goals – but I’ll give him some too.”

Form Liverpool midfielder Can added: "I’m personally very happy that Jadon is staying. For me he is already a world class player. He’s very, very important to the team. I hope he will continue to score many goals and help us as a team to win as many games as possible.”

Finally, fellow midfielder Thomas Delaney also offered his opinion on the bombshell announcement: "With Jadon staying, our options are greater. He’s one of the best players in the Bundesliga. You just have to look at his goals and assists last season. He’s still very young and I don’t know if he might get any better. But I also expect a lot from him in the next season. He’s just extraordinarily talented.”
