Erling Haaland accused of "laughing and walking off" when asked to swap shirts

Erling Haaland has been accused of "laughing and walking off" when asked to swap shirts in a match against Gibraltar.

The Norwegian recently scored a hat-trick in his country's second meeting with the island nation but there were tensions following his apparent behaviour in the previous clash.

Gibraltar striker Reece Styche, who plays for seventh-tier English club Hednesford Town, has recounted Haaland snubbing the opposition's captain in March, having wanted the Borussia Dortmund star's shirt for his son.

Haaland scored in Dortmund's 2-1 Champions League victory over Besiktas on Wednesday and made it 66 goals in 66 games for the German giants, boasting the tag of one of the most-wanted players in world football.

Styche, who hails from Birmingham, told The Sun : "None of us wanted Haaland's shirt, so we snubbed him. Last March, our skipper Roy Chipolina asked for Haaland's shirt when we met in Gibraltar.

"Norway won 3-0 but Haaland never scored, was substituted after an hour and was in a bit of a mood," the 32-year-old explained.

"After they'd both done TV interviews, Roy said to him: 'My little boy's a massive fan of yours, do you mind swapping jerseys?

"Haaland just looked at him, laughed and walked off! He can buy a lot of things - but he can't buy class - perhaps the media hype has gone to his head.

"He had the chance to make a little kid's day, month, year, whatever and he said no. So no-one wanted his shirt in Oslo."

The non-league hitman, nicknamed 'Brutus' in Gibraltar due to his combative approach, added: "Maybe he kept it to mark his hat-trick or gave it to a Norwegian fan because it was their first home match with supporters after Covid."

The match ended 5-1 in Olslo, with Styche being the man to get on the scoresheet for the visitors and score just their third goal in six quality matches for the nation ranked 197th in the world by FIFA.

Styche's strike was his third in total for Gibraltar and works as an accountant for Safety Technology International in Bromsgrove.

"I've represented Gibraltar 16 times and we don't receive caps, like the home nations.

"So I don't need Haaland's top as a memento," he affirmed. "My goal is down in history and I'll always have the memories stored in my head.

"I remember vividly looking at the screens after 34 minutes and saying out loud: 'Don't let this opportunity pass you by Reece.'

"Five minutes later Haaland made it 3-0. But four minutes after that our press won the ball back and I always knew I was going to dink the goalkeeper to score."

The following Saturday, Styche was back in the Southern Premier League Central, failing to score in his side's 1-1 draw at home to Barwell.

"It brings you back down to earth but that's my bread and butter," he stated. "International football is just a ridiculous privilege I have and I'll never take it for granted."
